GPS Camera 55, Speedometer 55, Compass 55 and Planimeter 55 - import and export improvements across all apps scheduled for July 2025.

All of the apps will get an upgrade in July 2025 with the following import/export improvements:

◆ Batch Export of Collections: Export multiple point/photo collections at once as a single KMZ file.

◆ Batch Enable/Disable Collections: Easily enable or disable several point collections in one go.

→ To use: tap the new 'more' button (left of the '+' in the collections list), choose Select, pick collections, then choose an action from the bottom toolbar.
◉ The ability to enable or disable multiple collections at once helps you focus only on the points/photos relevant to your project. Multi-collection KMZ export is fully compatible with the Google Earth desktop app and can be used to back up all your collections and points if needed. 100% of the data is preserved when importing back into the app on another device.

◆ Enhanced KMZ Import: Now supports KMZ archives with multiple subfolders and multiple KML files.
→ Import via the 'more' button on the points/photos list or the 'Open In' system option on iPhone/iPad.

Apps supporting track recording will also get:

+ When exporting all tracks of a trip to a single KMZ file (for Google Earth), the app now uses the gx:Track format to preserve timestamp information for each track point. The previously used Geometry format was losing that valuable time data.

Compass 55, Speedometer 55 and Planimeter 55 are also getting drawing tools improvements from GPS Camera 55:

◆ New drawing tools for annotating photos taken by the camera tool and ground image overlays:

+ Arrow, Rectangle, Circle, Cross pointer.
+ You can also adjust the line width.

◆ Other Improvements for July 2025:

+ Added info message at the bottom of the points/photos list to indicate when collections are disabled and their items are hidden.
+ Various fixes and performance improvements.

GPS Camera 55. Public beta 4.6 is now available with new drawing tools: Arrow, Rectangle, Circle (Ellipse) + adjustable line width for the drawing!

Before version 4.6, the photo editor tools included photo crop, resize, tilt, and freehand drawing on the photo. Starting from version 4.6, the complete list of drawing tools is:

  • Freehand drawing
  • Rectangle
  • Circle (Ellipse)
  • Arrow
  • Cross pointer

Here is an example showing all tools used on one photo:

Final touches on Map collections before the public releases. Speedo 55, Compass 55 and Planimeter 55.

The documentation for Map Collections in the upcoming app versions is now ready in all supported languages!

We’re down to final optimizations—currently improving ground image overlays by adding thumbnail images for use in lists and preview screens.
For example, here’s a historical map of Tokyo from 1799:

The thumbnail is just 47KB, while the full ground overlay image is around 80MB:

Quite a difference!

Compass 55: Beta version 4.2 with OSGB and SK 42 (СК 42) converter is now available!

converter-latlon

Re-designed free-text coordinates converter is available from version 4.2 of the app. You’ll find it in several places:

  1. MENU > Coordinates converter.
  2. On the map, in the map search > Coordinates.
  3. In the point editor, to the left of the Done button or in Lat/Lon, UTM, MGRS rows.

New coordinates converter adds support for OSGB and SK 42 coordinate systems, in addition to current Lat/Lon, UTM, MGRS. More coordinate systems will be added with time.

We started with OSGB and SK 42 as they both represent some unique challenges that we wanted to solve before looking at more generic conversions:

  • OSGB. The app provides options for both approximate conversion and precise conversion with usage of a grid shift file. By default, approximate conversion is used (as in most online converters and apps). In the OSGB conversion settings section in the converter screen, if you switch to a precise conversion, the app will ask you to download grid shifts file (about 15MB). After that you can use the precise conversion and avoid error of 0..±5 feet which happens in case of an approximate conversion. OSGB settings also provide an option to insert space between coordinate components or not.

  • SK 42. Former Soviet Union standard (covering area from Germany to Japan) that a lot of Eastern European users still have maps for. The app provides precise zonal conversion for SK 42, where different parameters are used for each zone and thus accuracy corresponds to sources like EPSG iself or SK42.org.

This probably makes the app one of the rare ones that can provide offline precise conversion for OSGB and SK 42 systems.

You can enter free text in the top coordinate input text box and the app will do its best to parse it as a coordinate.

For WGS84 latitude, longitude (d, dm, dms), UTM or MGRS input you have an option to switch format between these coordinate representations. Use the Format button:

converter-format

For the point editor, converter button is available on top of the screen and in Latitude/Longitude, UTM, MGRS input rows:

converter-point

The above screenshot also shows that you can have different button colors from Version 4.1

The top converter button starts with coordinates in either Latitude/Longitude, UTM or MGRS - dependent on your choice of a default in Settings > Coordinate format.

Buttons in the Latitude/Longitude, UTM or MGRS rows start with respectively with Latitude/Longitude, UTM or MGRS.

Still working on a new free-text coordinates converter (adding OSGB and SK 42).

A short preview for how this new converter will be used in the Point editor. This is recorded with the Compass 55 app, but will be available in the same way in GPS Camera 55.

Taximeter 55: Added documentation page for the soon coming options for creating a taxi trip directly in the Fare Calculator.

 http://hdocs.blocoware.com/en/taxi/v42/

Adding support for creating a taxi trip directly in the Fare Calculator (MENU > FARE CALCULATOR).

  • In the fare calculator select the preferred route, tap on ‘Create trip’ button:

fare-estimator-trip

  • Now add/manage extras for the trip, use Receipt button to adjust the total, note or collect the payment.
  • If you don’t need the calculated trip, swipe on the delete button to delete the trip.
  • If you keep the calculated trip, you’ll find it later in the trips log (MENU > TRIPS LOG). This should enable new business scenarios when you need to give a fixed price estimate and issue a receipt exactly for the estimated price.

Taximeter 55 app - version 4.1 - The first one with custom button colors, others to follow.

 Version 4.1 - What's new?

Custom color for buttons. (Settings > Advanced > Button colors).

This should provide more options for improved visibility of buttons in bright sunlight and potentially assist in cases involving vision color deficiencies.

buttons-color-picker

You can now pick colors for all of the buttons in the app with following exceptions:

  • Buttons in popups are having system blue color.

All other buttons will have the color that you pick here.

Integrating the latest version of SumUp SDK (5.0.0) as SumUp has the following important updates for you:

  • Support for the Solo Lite card reader.
  • Support for the Australian Dollar and Mexican Pesos currencies.

Speedometer 55 - version 2.0.3 for iPhones and cellular iPads. PRO + FREE.

The most recent version: 2.0.3 fixes some bugs for the users on 12 hours (am/pm) time format. But don't forget to check the GPS beacon function!

GPS Beacon (PRO).

When enabled, GPS beacon allows you to share a link with others to track your real-time location in any web browser. Even when enabled, GPS beacon only functions (sends data to a server at regular intervals) when you record a track in the app (e.g. MENU > NEW TRACK starts a new track recording).

Here is what someone with a link to your beacon might see:

Locations list at the bottom is synchronized with the map. Scroll through locations to have them focused on the map with a light blue dot.

There is also a "Points" switch on the beacon web page. When switched on, it enables you to tap on any point on your "track" and see the corresponding location point in the list:

The idea for the GPS beacon is to enable leaving a breadcrumb for your loved ones, only when needed.

You can read more on configuring and switching the beacon on/off here: GPS Beacon.

Option to show route connection points as small dots (PRO).

This was a popular request, great to have it implemented!

To enable, open map settings > common settings and down to the bottom you'll find a new "Annotations" section to set this up.

Option to order points list by the date of creation (descending), instead of a date of the last update (PRO).

By default, points in the list are ordered by the date of their last update. Whenever you'd update anything on the point, it would jump to the top of the list and this might not be the best default for all scenarios. From version 2.0 you can change default order to point creation date. To change, tap on the filter button in the points list and pick "Created" as a sort by field:

Camera tool - filling metadata IPTC Object Name field with Original or Stamped hint (Free + PRO).

Thanks to Dwayne (Canada) for requesting this feature. Now IPTC Object Name is populated with either "Original_" or "Stamped_" prefix plus capture date, so you can distinguish easily between original and stamped images based on metadata:

Improvements (PRO).

  • Added a confirmation popup before deleting multiple selected points in points list.
  • Point collection editor is not capitalizing every word in the collection name anymore.
  • Using WMM 2020 magnetic declination model.
  • Showing magnetic declination with a decimal point accuracy.
  • Improved algorithm for showing tracks on a Google map.
  • Improved GPX tracks import, especially for drones where instantaneous speed is often written directly into the trkpt element and speed can't be reliably deduced from the distance and timing between distinct trkpt points.

Bug fixes (Free + PRO).

• Fixed an issue with some sharing options not being properly presented for iPads on iOS 13.3.
Camera tool:
  • Fixed the bug when TIFF and IPTC comment metadata fields were not updated on the original photo when image notes were changed via photo notes editor.
  • Fixed the bug when changes to photo notes at the image preview stage were not propagated to the "global" photo notes settings to apply to the future photos by default.

GPS Camera 55. Version 2.0 now in the AppStore for iPhone and iPads.

What's new?

Optimizations for iOS 13.4.

Apple has fixed a few bugs in iOS 13.4 and we were able to either optimize from our side or remove some workarounds.

Change to default ordering of points in points list + date sort options.

Previously, points in the list were ordered by the date of their last update. Whenever you'd update anything on the point, it would jump to the top of the list and this was causing some confusion.

Thus, I'm taking the liberty to change the default date sort order to "Created at". If you are used to the old style of sorting, set the default order back to "Last update" - this is remembered as your preference then.

This doesn't apply for Nearby type of filtering and it still orders points by proximity.

Customization settings for the photo notes editor.

Settings > Photo notes editor:

Option to open photo notes editor as the first step of a photo preview after capture.

Set to NO by default, but if you find yourself forgetting to edit/review notes for the photo before or after capture, this new option is for you. It only work if your Capture settings are set to Preview after the capture, not to Save.

Credit for suggesting this feature goes to Dwayne (Canada).

Option to customize format of a photo automatic title.

By default, photo title is pre-populated with date and time in the format of ddMMMyy HH:mm. From this version you can change this default format to match your business needs.

For example, format as 'DAY'DD'YEAR'yy-HHmmss will result in the following auto title:

Where DD stands for the day of the year (22-March-2020 was the day when auto title above was generated and it was 82th day of year 2020).

To show something that is not date/time related in the auto title you'll have to separate these parts with single quotes, like 'DAY' part above. In this way, you can setup anything of your own in the automatic title.

You can read more on Title customization here.

Need more customizations for the title or other fields? Please let us know!

Filling metadata IPTC Object Name field with Original or Stamped hint.

Thanks to Dwayne (Canada) for requesting this feature. Now IPTC Object Name is populated with either "Original_" or "Stamped_" prefix plus capture date, so you can distinguish easily between original and stamped images based on metadata:

Improvements

  • Added a confirmation popup before deleting multiple selected points in points list.
  • Point collection editor is not capitalizing every word in the collection name anymore.
  • Using WMM 2020 magnetic declination model. This is used for establishing true/magnetic north angle from magnetic/true in the exif gps data on import from the photo library.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed the bug when "PDF report" sharing menu would not be open on iPads with iOS 13.3+.

GPS Team 55 - tracking and collaboration app for iPhones and iPads.

I've been running the beta version for the team collaboration and tracking app for quite some time. In terms of thinking of how I can help to the community these days, I decided to invite everyone who might be in the need of such an app to join the beta and track their colleagues in the field, family members, etc.

No costs involved and I'll try to scale as you join. If you know first responders or community workers who might benefit from the team tracking app like this, I'll appreciate if you spread the word.

Testflight public link to install the beta app: https://testflight.apple.com/join/4tQ9rkpT

Yours and wishing you to stay safe and healthy!
Stan.
